The Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University has held a workshop via Zoom platform in cooperation with the University of Dundee, Britain, titled "Basics of Implementing and Developing OSCE Exams: Ideas from the University of Dundee". The workshop was attended by faculty members and clinical supervisors from training hospitals inside the country, in addition to the supervisors of medical students from the Istishari and Specialized Hospitals in Jordan.
The workshop focused on developing, implementing and evaluating OSCE exams for undergraduate medical students, the mechanism for improving the training of teaching staff and ensuring the reliability of assessments, as well as reviewed practical methods in designing stations, preparing unified assessment criteria, training residents, and logistical planning. The workshop also stressed the need for OSCE to be consistent with the outcomes of curricula, in areas such as communication, professionalism, and clinical thinking.
For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University, Professor Dr. Malik Zaben, pointed out the importance of academic cooperation between universities and educational institutions to develop the educational process and achieve excellence in medical evaluation. He explained that the workshop was a valuable opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge among local and international experts in the field of medical education. This came as an implementation of the cooperation agreements concluded with the University of Dundee, and as a culmination of student exchange through summer schools for students of the Faculty of Medicine.
At the end of the workshop, the participants in the workshop presented several recommendations, most notably the agreement to hold a series of workshops in cooperation with the University of Dundee through which the practical skills of the Faculty of Medicine staff will be developed to raise the scientific and practical level of students.
